Riding and Horsemanship Education

Riding and horsemanship education

The goal of our inclusive riding and horsemanship education program is the development of equestrian and horsemanship skills. We adapt our instruction and equipment to suit each individual participant’s needs. We carefully match each new participant with the appropriate horse and instructor.

We specialize in supporting riders with physical, intellectual, psychiatric, sensory or other disabilities. We do not require formal diagnoses, as there can be significant financial barriers to obtaining this documentation for many families. We aim to serve riders who cannot be accommodated in other community riding programs. Our ability to serve riders without disabilities is limited.

During our intake process, we will ask questions to better understand your rider’s profile. If we do not currently have the horse, tack, or specific expertise required to safely serve your rider, we may suggest alternate activities or refer you to a different program.

Our participants are involved in all aspects of preparing a horse for mounted activities to the greatest extent possible, including retrieving the horse from the stall or field, grooming, and tacking.

Our process

New participants should complete the intake form linked below. This will give our team a general profile of the participant. We meet with all new participants individually to learn about their background, horsemanship skills, and goals prior to the start of lessons. This introductory meeting is a good opportunity to ask questions about the barn, the horses, and our approach to instruction. There is no cost to this visit. During this visit, we will assess the participant’s fit with our instructors, horses, and lesson types.

Lesson Types & RATES

Our lessons are typically scheduled for one hour. Our instructional team makes decisions on individual riders’ suitability for duration of lesson (e.g., 45 or 60 minutes) and format (e.g., private or group). Our lessons start at $50 per person.

Lessons with our miniature horses are offered at a reduced rate. Private lessons are $45 per hour and semi-private or group lessons are $35 per hour for each participant.

We offer a 15% discount to additional family members. If you are eager to join, but have concerns about the affordability of our programs, we encourage you to reach out to us.

Financial aid is available. We ask that families exhaust all community scholarship options before applying for financial aid from The Achieve Collective, as our resources are limited.
